Bill recently illustrated his second book children's picture book, Building with Dad, written by Carol Nevius and published by Cavendish Children's Books.
Bill's first picture book, Karate Hour (also with Nevius and Cavendish), received numerous accolades including a Gold Award from the National Association of Parenting Publications and a Notable Book Award from the International Reading Association. Artwork from the book was recognized with awards in juried illustration competitions sponsored by SILA (Gold Award), the Society of Illustrators, Communication Arts, 3 x 3 Illustration Annual, and the Connecticut Art Directors' Club (Gold Award). The book also received starred reviews from Booklist and the School Library Journal and was named as a 2004 Editor's Choice and Top Ten Sports Books For Youth by the American Library Association. Bill dedicated Karate Hour to father, William S. Thomson, who passed away in 2003.
